What to Expect

Barbara Hayman brings a wealth of experience directly to your doorstep, whether it’s your residence or workplace. Understanding that your space should authentically reflect your individual style and functional requirements, Barbara engages in thorough discussions to ensure a personalized approach tailored to your needs and preferences.

Typically, the initial consultation spans approximately an hour, although larger projects may necessitate multiple sessions. During this time, Barbara conducts a comprehensive assessment, capturing photographs and taking precise measurements of the space to inform the design process. Should further measurements be required for additional areas, subsequent appointments may be scheduled.

As part of the consultation, Barbara requests a comprehensive tour of your entire home or office, encouraging you to highlight any concerns or challenges beyond the initial inquiry. Additionally, she may inquire about personal items to glean insight into your preferred colors and patterns. This collaborative exchange serves as an opportunity for mutual acquaintance and lays the groundwork for a productive partnership moving forward.

Investment

People are often shy to discuss how much they want to invest in a decorating project but for both parties it is by far one of the most important aspects of your initial consultation. You may not know how much things cost and we can work with you to determine a budget that accomplishes your overall project goals.

You may choose to work on one room at a time or the entire home. The investment in your home or business will determine the furnishing and finishes your interior designer can include in the project. We have to the trade only pieces, custom upholstery and custom drapery. Best of all, we also have relationships with American craftsman for custom furniture, and imported furniture too.

Design Plan & Presentation

At the design studio sketches, renderings and floor plans are created.  Custom window treatments and upholstered furnishings are designed for you with fabric selections based upon your functional needs and aesthetic style.  All other room elements such as lighting, accessories, and floor coverings are selected and incorporated into your plan.  Product availability is confirmed with suppliers, a design presentation is created, and our presentation appointment is confirmed.

During the presentation, where all decision makers are present, we reveal our recommendations for creating the space of your dreams. Together, we’ll discuss any adjustments necessary to the design plan.  Once a final plan is agreed upon, a contract is signed, and a deposit is secured.

Behind the Scenes

Once the design plan is finalized, Barbara will schedule a follow-up visit to your home or office. During this appointment, she will present a comprehensive package including a floorplan, detailed drawings, and fabric samples showcasing the selected furnishings tailored to your design vision.

Barbara Hayman Designs boasts an extensive array of furniture and furnishings, encompassing rugs, lighting fixtures, custom drapery, wallpaper, and a myriad of other elements to elevate your space.

Given the diverse range of suppliers from which furnishings are sourced, items may arrive separately and at varying intervals. All items are securely stored until your entire order is received. While some pieces may arrive within weeks, others may require several months for delivery, ensuring each component of your design is meticulously curated and executed to perfection.

The Final Reveal

If you’re in the middle of renovations, you’ll likely witness the primary construction phases beforehand. For tasks like painting and wallpaper installation, these might be prioritized earlier to prevent any potential spills or mishaps on newly acquired custom furniture. Regardless of the nature of your design project, anticipate a delightful surprise in store.

As installation day approaches, the anticipation builds for both you and your designer. It’s recommended to grant the design team privacy during this crucial stage, allowing them to oversee subcontractors responsible for installing window treatments and hanging light fixtures.

Barbara will reach out once everything is meticulously in place, prompting your return home for the grand reveal. There’s truly nothing quite as satisfying as departing in the morning and returning later to witness the final transformation of your space.
